It was Byrne’s teammate Glenn Irwin who took the second spot on the grid, with Honda Racing rider Jason O’Halloran not too far behind taking third to get his first podium of the year.

Leon Haslam hit the front of the pack at the start of the race from O’Halloran, James Ellison and Shakey Byrne. But, it was short lived as McAMS Yamaha rider Ellison soon led until Byrne took the lead 6 laps in at Shell Oils corner. 8 laps later, disaster struck for both Haslam and Ellison as the McAMS Yamaha suffered a technical issue which led to Haslam running into the back of him at 150mph. Thankfully, both riders are okay.
